About Us / Our Purpose


The Rescue Mission is a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Tacoma, Washington. Guided by its Christian heritage and belief in the human spirit, the Rescue Mission works with people at all stages of addiction, homelessness or other life challenges, offering proven services, support and facilities. Originally founded in 1912 to serve homeless men in Tacoma, the Rescue Mission has grown to serve women and children in all parts of Pierce County with six different locations.

 

The Rescue Mission:

  • Serves more than 1,800 healthy, nutritious meals monthly to people who would otherwise go hungry
  • Provides shelter to more than 450 people every night; many of our beds are occupied by children
  • Helps people in all parts of Pierce County, including Fife, Lakewood, Puyallup-Sumner and Tacoma

 

Our innovative and successful programs:

  • Provide more than 1,500 hours monthly of free skills training, resume assistance, GED preparation and learning assistance through our Challenge Learning Center
  • Offer about 2,000 hours a month of free drug and alcohol rehabilitation services to women and men in our New Life Programs.
  • Give 500 hours a month of homework assistance, tutoring and other support services to children of our clients; additional youth programs are offered in the summer and throughout the year
  • Help people overcome addiction and other life challenges through individualized case management services of about 1,000 hours a month
