Programs & Facilities / Culinary Program

An innovative partnership with Bates Technical College provides opportunities for Mission clients to work in the Good Neighbor Café while learning to be a chef or caterer.

Specially designed by Bates for the Rescue Mission, four people from our New Life program enroll in the Culinary program, which takes about six months to complete. Students from Bates also work at the Good Neighbor Café, honing their skills, supervising daily meal preparation and service and helping train Rescue Mission students.

When Rescue Mission students complete the program, they graduate and are able to teach at Bates or pursue work in the culinary field. Every six months, a new group of Rescue Mission clients join this program.
